Sioux Center News of Jun 15, 1961

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed church in Orange City at 1:30 p.m.. Thursday, June 15, for Walter Dragstra, 77, former resident of Lebanon community and a resident of Orange City for the past 15 years, who died at the Sioux Center Community hospital at 2:30 p.m. June 11 after a long illness, Services were conducted by Rev. J. B. Hulst and burial was made in the Orange City cemetery under the direction of the Cooperative Funeral home of Sioux Center.

Mr. Dragstra had suffered a stroke about 2 ½ years ago and had been partially paralyzed about the time and confined to the hospital. He was born at Friesland, The Netherlands, on October 22, 1883 and grew to young man hood there. He was married May 18, 1912 to Martha Wagenaar and then came to America in 1913 to establish their permanent home.

They lived on farms in the Tyndall and Springfield, South Dakota, areas for approximately 20 years and they moved to Lebanon where they resided until 1946 when they moved to Orange City. Mrs. Dragstra passed away June 5, 1956.. One child, who died in infancy in 1931, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include the following children: Tena (Mrs. Thomas I. DeJong) of Orange City, Grace (Mrs. Joseph Mesaras) of Clifton, N. J., Theodore of Orange City, Tillie (Mrs. John B. Wallenburg) of Rock Valley, Chris of Sioux Center, Joseph of Larchwood, Edna (Mrs. Orville Beltman) of Orange City. He is also survived by two sisters, who live in The Netherlands, Mrs. Y. De Leeuw and Mrs. Albert Veenstra, and 26 grandchildren. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed church of Orange City.
