Esther Draayom, 94, of Avoca, formerly of Orange City, died Monday in a nursing home in Harlan. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 2 in First Presbyterian Church of Hospers. The Rev. Robert Houser officiated. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under direction of the Berthusen-Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca.

Mrs. Draayom, the former Esther Maris, was born Feb 4, 1893 in Orange City. She graduated from Northwestern Classical Academy at Orange City in 1911 and taught school in the Sioux County area.
She married Gerrit Draayom Feb. 11, 1920, in Hospers. The couple farmed in the Sibley and Melvin areas before moving to Sheldon in 1945. They later lived in Sioux City, Primghar and Avoca areas. He died in 1978. Mrs. Draayom was a member of the United Church of Avoca and Evening Circle of the church and Primghar American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Gertrude) Ohm of Avoca and a grandson.
