Bernadena Dirksen August 20, 1920—October 27, 1997 Bernadena "Dena" Dirksen, 77, of Rock Valley died Monday, October 27, at Valley Manor in Rock Valley. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, at Lebanon Christian Reformed Church in Lebanon with the Rev. C. Eric Fennema officiating. Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery.

Mrs. Dirksen was born August 20, 1920, in Rock Valley, the daughter of Gerrit and Anita (De Bie) Coulander. She was raised near Rock Valley, where she attended country school. She was employed at the Lebanon Store for many years.

She married Dick Dirksen August 18, 1945, in Downey, Alabama. The couple farmed near Hawarden and later near Rock Valley. He died December 1, 1988. She moved into Rock Valley in 1989 and entered Valley Manor in May 1997.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, Cornelius and Jeneva Coulander of Ireton; a sister. Elizabeth Bouma of Rock Valley; two sisters-in-law, Winfred Coulander of Hospers and Christine Coulander of Visalia, California; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded In death by her parents; a son, Ricky, in infancy; and three brothers, Gary, Henry and Peter Coulander.
