Mrs. Fred Starkenburg, nee Bernadette Marie Miller, passed away December 1st at the Orange City hospital after a long illness.

She was born February 13, 1917, at Alton where she lived all her life. She was married November 17, 1935 to Fred Starkenburg. To this union three children were born.

She was a member of the Alton United Presbyterian Church and worked for 21 years as a cook in the Floyd Valley School system.

Preceding her in death are her parents,Christian and Anna (Baune) Starkenburg; two infant children, Catherine and Keith and two brothers, Julius (Ted) Miller and Henry Miller both of Alton and one sister Louisa, Mrs. Herman Mulder.

Survivors are the widower; one daughter, Mrs. John Hatch of Pierre, South Dakota, two grandchildren, Phillip and Mary, two brothers, Laurence Miller of Paullina, Clarence (Chuck) Miller of Primghar, two sisters, Alvina, Mrs. Ted Steichen of Alton and Mrs. Joe Stoos of Marion, Iowa,

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church with Reverend John Maze officiating. Pallbearers were six nephews, Phillip Stoos of Marion, Iowa, Larry Miller of Sioux City, Bill Brower of Worthington, Minnesota, Albert Mouw of Orange City and Leo Starkenburg of Boyden. Interment was held in Nassau Cemetery.
