Marjorie Ann (Trenary) Ter Hark passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Sunrise Care Center in Sioux City, Iowa surrounded by family. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Ave., Sioux City, with Reverend Jim Shirbroun officiating.

Marge was born on August 26, 1929 to Clarence and Bena (Abbas) Trenary at the family farm homestead along the Boone River near Kanawha, Iowa. Marge attended country school, graduated from Kanawha High School, and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College, now known as the University of Northern Iowa. She taught country school near Kanawha for two years.

Marge was united in marriage to Allan Ter Hark on August 9, 1950 at the little wooden Kanawha Christian Reformed Church that her maternal grandfather helped to start and build. The minister who performed Allan and Marge’s wedding ceremony also officiated at the wedding of Marge’s parents 25 years earlier. To this union three daughters, Nancy, Cynthia, and Sue, were born. Allan and Marge spent happy years together raising their daughters in Kanawha and later in Orange City, Iowa. They retired to Spirit Lake, Iowa and enjoyed wintering in Harlingen, Texas until their move in 2012 to the independent living community at The Pointe at Sunrise in Sioux City.

Marge was an accomplished needlewoman and created many beautiful counted cross stitch pieces. She was a voracious reader and followed politics and world events closely. A gracious hostess, Marge liked nothing better than visiting with family and friends over a cup of tea. Marge’s family was always her first priority and greatest joy and she adored her eight grandsons, four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Nancy and Roger Van Gorp of Liberty, Missouri; Cindy and Dan Moser of Sioux City; and Sue and Henry Sandbulte of Dayton, Minnesota; her grandsons Jason and Ryan (Karen) Van Gorp; Joseph (Shannon) and Evan Moser; and Jesse (Christina), Drew (Skyler), Cole (Jenni) and Blair (Rachael) Sandbulte; great-grandsons Brekken Van Gorp, William, Thomas, and Leyton Sandbulte; and twin great-granddaughters Cora and Macy Sandbulte; sisters-in-law Darlene Trenary and Janice Olinger; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her best friend and husband Allan who passed away on July 30, 2017, just shy of their 67th wedding anniversary; her parents Clarence and Bena Trenary; her beloved brother Richard (Jim) Trenary; her mother- and father-in-law Elsie and Fred Ter Hark; brothers-in-law Arnette Ter Hark and Kenny Olinger; and niece and nephew Donnetta and Jim Peterson.

Memorial donations in Marge’s memory may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland, 4300 Hamilton Blvd., Sioux City, IA 51104-1139; the Food Bank of Siouxland, Inc., 1313 11th St., Sioux City, IA 51105; or the charity of your choice.

The measure of our love is the measure of our lives and the weight of grief is in proportion to our love. Although we will always miss her, her unconditional love and support for our family and our love for her are greater than our grief.
