Allen Spencer, one of the pioneers of the Big Sioux Valley, died at his home at Fairview last Thursday morning. He was 81 years of age.

Allen was the son of Asaph and Betsy (Roberts) Spencer. As a young man his family relocated from Ohio to Lockport Township, St. Joseph County, Michigan. After his father's death he moved with his mother and brothers to Black Hawk County, Iowa. He finally settled in Fairview, South Dakota. Allen and Olive had no children but adopted Clarence Elva Marshall, the son of Olive's sister.

Allen Atwater Spencer was laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Lincoln County, South Dakota.
