Carolyn Van De Brake, age 80, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Monday, March 18, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Kevin Muyskens officiating.

Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Monday, March 18, from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. prior to the Funeral Service at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.

Carolyn Joyce Van De Brake was born on December 6, 1938 in Orange City, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Effie (Feenstra) Van Gelder, the youngest of 8 children. She lived her youth on a farm outside of Orange City and attended a one room school house, graduating from high school at LeMars Public.
She married Rodney Van De Brake of Sheldon, Iowa on November 22, 1960 in Orange City. Carolyn and Rod raised their 3 daughters on Rod’s family farm north of Sheldon, milking up to 50 cows. Carolyn kept busy helping with chores, bookwork and caring for the family. In addition to being a farm wife and mother she took some business classes at Northwest Iowa Technical College and went to work as a secretary at Edward Jones in Sheldon for 15 years, until she retired.
When Carolyn retired she spent a lot of time quilting blankets for her grandchildren and then traveling to deliver them. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends. Carolyn did some traveling to the Caribbean, Colorado, Michigan and Washington D.C. Her favorite place was at home.
She was a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Carolyn moved to Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa on December 11, 2013 where she passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019.
Those left to cherish her memories are her 3 daughters, Lisa (Brian) Keltner, Melanie (John) Polen and Rhonda Van De Brake; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Theresa Goslinga; 2 brothers, Wilbert (Clara) Van Gelder and Arnold (Marjorie) Van Gelder; sister-in-law, Marcia Van Gelder.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret (Vernon) Muilenburg; 3 brothers, Raymond (Marjorie) Van Gelder, Edward Van Gelder, and Dick (Helen) Van Gelder; brother-in-law, Stewart Goslinga.
