The funeral of A.J. Sneltjes of Newkirk was held Monday with services in the First Reformed Church, on account of the Newkirk Church having been destroyed by fire.

Aegidius J. Sneltjes was born at Amsterdam, Netherlands, on April 5, 1868, and at the age of 11 years he was left orphan and was cured for at the Neerbosch Orphanage until 19 years of age when he came to America, locating at Orange City where for a time he worked in the De Volksvriend Printing Office. Later he in company with Mr. Van der Meulen established the Newsblade at Sioux Center which they published for several years.

In 1894 he was married to Miss Dena Hofmeyer of Hospers and in 1902 they moved to Yakima, Washington, where they resided until 1910. Since then they have lived at Sioux Center, Twin Brooks, South Dakota, and Sheldon, where his health began to fail and they moved to Newkirk, where they lived the past three and a half years. He died last Thursday, January 26, aged 59 years, 9 months, and 21 days, death being due to high blood pressure and hardening of the arteries.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and sons, an only child, Gerhard. Also a sister is Saskatchewan, Canada, and a brother in the Hague, Netherlands.

Deceased was a member of the Reformed Church at Newkirk and the funeral services were in charge of Reverends Dykstra of Orange City, Vis of Sheldon, Stegeman of Hospers, and Roetman of Newkirk, and attended by a large crowd of sympathizing friends and relatives.

Deceased was a man with a quiet pleasant disposition and a sterling character and the bereaved widow and son have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their loss.
