Mrs. Alma Hofmeyer, age 85 of Hospers, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, March 7, at 11:00am, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers. The Rev. Dr. Brian Janssen will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hospers Cemetery near Hospers. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday, at 10:00am, at the church.

Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Alma June was born on November 23, 1933, in Hospers, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Oldenkamp) Roos. She was raised in Hospers and graduated from the Hospers Public School.

On December 27, 1951, she married Wallace Dean Hofmeyer at the First Reformed Church in Hospers. In their early years of marriage, they lived in Le Mars and Alton before settling for the majority of their years in the Hospers area, where they raised their family. Alma worked for many years as a secretary at the Floyd Valley Hospers Elementary School. In 2017, they became residents of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City.

Alma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she participated in the Ladies Circle. She was a gifted pianist and used her talents for many years playing for the church choir, Hofmeyer Quartet, nursing home services, and many other special music events. She also enjoyed crocheting, camping, and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her husband, Dean, of more than 67 years; three daughters and their husbands, Sharon “Sherrie” and Ken Van Donslear, Diane “Deets” and Dave Bosma, and Dawn and Jim Huisman, all of Hospers; a daughter-in-law, Linda Rae Hofmeyer, of Orange City; a son-in-law, Mark Miller, of Hospers; seventeen grandchildren and their spouses, Bridgette and Chad De Vries, Lacey and Caleb Conant, Jesse and Marie Hofmeyer, Emily and Daron De Jong, Corey Van Donslear, Beau and Erin Bosma, Megan and Chris Begeman, Troy and Laura Bosma, Austin and Jaclyn Bosma, Tara Bosma, Brandon and Kim Miller, Brett and Amanda Miller, Brady and Jessica Miller, Bryan Miller, Trevor and Amanda Huisman, Logan and Megan Huisman, and Haley and Logan Pals; 35 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Glen and Jan Hofmeyer, and Arvin and Twila Hofmeyer; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Julie and Alvin Stuit.

In addition to her parents, Henry and Martha Roos, and parents-in-law, Wesley and Johanna Hofmeyer, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis “Perp” Hofmeyer; a daughter, Susan Miller; a brother, Byron Roos; a brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Jolene Hofmeyer; and a sister-in-law, Carole Roos.

Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers or the Orange City Area Health System Home Health and Hospice.
