Funeral services were held Monday for Anthony Schuller, nearly 82, who died unexpectedly Thursday at the Orange City Hospital after a week's illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Alton and vicinity, having been born May 6, 1882, on the Schuller farm south of Alton. He married Jennie Beltman, also of a pioneer family, January 3, 1913. Their marriage took place at the Beltman farm home.

The couple farmed for many years north of Alton. In 1944 they home and farm buildings were destroyed by tornado after they barely escaped in their car from the storm. They moved to Alton 14 years ago and celebrated their golden wedding last year. They later enjoyed a visit at Garden Grove, California with their son, Reverend Robert and family. Reverend Schuller came for the funeral and left for California Tuesday.

Survivors include the widow and five children, Mrs. Gerrit Vander Pol of Sibley, Henry of Alton; Mrs. Art Reekers and Mrs. Henry O. Mouw, both of Orange City, Reverend Robert of Santa Ana, California; 4 brothers, Pete and Myron of Hospers, James and Neal of Orange City.

Officiating at the funeral in the local Reformed church were Reverend Deetsma of Sheldon and Reverend Don Lenderink of Trinity Reformed Church, Orange City. Pallbearers were neighbors.

Mr. Schuller was known as an excellent farmer, a good neighbor and a devoted husband and father. He was for many years active in his church. Among the many at the services Monday were relatives and friends from Canton, South Dakota and from towns in Northwest Iowa.
