Funeral Wednesday for Mr. Claus Reitsma of This Place

Mr. Claus Reitsma, who was for years one of Hull’s shoe repair men, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Holwerda, north of Perkins, Saturday [April 1], following a heart attack. Mr. Reitsma had been in pretty good health and had been to a funeral with his daughter and her husband just previous to the illness that caused his death.

The funeral was held Wednesday from the home here in Hull and from the Christian Reformed church, conducted by Dr. Haan, and the remains were laid to rest in Hope Cemetery.

The Index joins the many friends of the family in extending sincere sympathy.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Reitsma, Klaas, b. 1865, d. 1933, Father, ss Pietje, Hope Cem, Hull IA.

His death certificate has Clarence Rietsma, born Sept. 19, 1864 in Holland; parents Ole Reitsma and Minke Hager; resident of the U.S. and Hull 13 years; wife Pearl Rietsma; occupation, retired farmer; died in Rock Township, Sioux County, at 7 p.m. April 1, 1933; cause, cardiac decompensation; contributory cause, arterio sclerosis; buried at Hull.

The 1925 Iowa state census has K. Reitsma, age 59, owns his home worth $1500; wife Pietje, age 61; residents of Hull, in the U.S. and Iowa three years; his parents are Aale Reitsma and Meenke Hager; hers are Jacob Noteboom and Tryntje Fylstra.

In the 1930 U.S. Census Clarence and Peart Reitsma are living in Doon Township, Lyon County, with their son-in-law Gerret Regnerus, his wife Tryntje, and their children. Gerret is a farmer and Clarence a retired farmer. Clarence, Pearl, Gerret, and Tryntje were all born in Holland, immigrated in 1921, and are aliens.

It also has a marriage index record: groom Klaas Reitsma, age 23, born in Berlikum, parents Ales Keimpes Reitsma and Minke Klazes Hager; bride Pietje Nooteboom, age 26, born in Beetgum, parents Jacob Annes Nooteboom and Trintje Klazes Zijlstra; married 16 May 1889 in Menaldumadeel, Friesland.

A news note in the Sioux County Index (Hull), August 12, 1921, says that Klaus Reitsma, the new Holland shoemaker, has purchased the John Velthuizen home in the DeJong Addition.
