From the Rock County Herald (Luverne), August 19, 1932:

SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP MOTHER DIES SUDDENLY
Mrs. Jake Biesterbos Found Dead Lying Alongside of Bed When Husband Returns from Work

Mrs. Jacob Biesterbos, of Springwater township, died very suddenly late Monday afternoon while alone in her home on the Fangmeyer farm. She was found kneeling between a bed and the wall in her bedroom, lying on her face and breast, when Mr. Biesterbos went to the house at about 6:00 in response to a statement from one of the children that there was something wrong with mother and she looked peculiar.

Dr. L. C. Sherman was summoned and because of the strange position in which the body was found and the fact that Mrs. Biesterbos had not been ill, Coroner F. W. Bofenkamp was called and a post-mortem examination made. This disclosed that death had been due to heart trouble, or congestion caused by a blood clot.

On the afternoon of Mrs. Biesterbos’ death the husband had been helping a neighbor thresh, and reached home at about 5:00 o’clock. He was out in a field doing some fencing, when one of the children told him about the mother’s appearance, and he returned to the home. The indication, when the physicians arrived, was that Mrs. Biesterbos’ death could not have occurred earlier than 4:00 o’clock.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 12:30 o’clock from the Dutch Reformed church, at Steen, Rev. DeYong, of Rock Rapids, conducting the services, and the body was taken to the deceased’s old home at Doon, Iowa, for interment. The pallbearers were John Carlson, Herman Thorson, M. Post, E. Willems, S. Roemling and Ferd. Petersen.

Anna Lingbeck was born May 23rd, 1899, at Rock Valley, Iowa, and upon reaching young womanhood was united in marriage to A. W. Briggs and to this union were born three children, Edna, Alfred and William, their ages being 14, 13, and 11 years, respectively.

Deceased was united in marriage to Mr. Biesterbos on March 14th, 1927, and had since resided on the farm in Springwater township. To this union one daughter, Annie, aged three, was born. She, with the husband, survives. Deceased is also survived by two brothers, George Lingbeck of Winfred, S.D., Joseph Lingbeck of Inwood, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. P. Drenth of Sioux City and Mrs. H. Kielman of Sioux Falls.
