Mrs. Bea Dykstra, age 87, of Alton, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a memorial mass on Friday, February 15, at 2:00pm, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. The Rev. Fr. Daniel Greving will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation with the family will be the hour before the service on Friday at the church.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Walburga Elizabeth, who was known as Bea, was born on March 30, 1931, in Sioux County, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Schwartz) Miller. She was raised in Alton.

On January 10, 1948, she married Jake U. Dykstra in Alton. They made their home in Le Mars, Orange City, and Alton. Jake passed away on November 18, 1964, in Orange City.

Mrs. Dykstra was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She was a cook at the OK Café in Alton and at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. She was also a resident assistant at Hope Haven in Orange City.

Bea enjoyed NASCAR, especially Tony Stewart, reading, baking, and feeding birds and squirrels.

She also liked family get-togethers, particularly in the summer and on holidays.

Bea was a hard worker and dedicated mother. After being widowed at a young age, she raised six children by working two full-time jobs.

Survivors include five children and their spouses, Ruth and Don Wagner, of Garretson, South Dakota; Jeff and Glenda Dykstra, of Hartford; Steve and Deanna Dykstra, of Horton, Michigan; Sheila and Rob Woodard, of Alton; and Alicia Beltman, of Sheldon; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Eileen Miller and Bertha Dykstra.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Allan Dykstra; two great-grandchildren, Brody Farence and Selah Farence; a brother, Robert Miller; a sister and her husband, Mary Lou and John Verschoor; and Jake’s siblings.
