From the Sioux County Index (Hull), January 21, 1921:

G. A. Voogd Dead

G. A. Voogd, aged seventy years, died Friday morning, January 14th, a t 9 o’clock. He had been sick for some time with bladder trouble and submitted to an operation, January 11th, but on account of his advanced age, he could not withstand the operation.

He was buried Monday, January 17. Services were held at the home at 1:30 o’clock and at the First Reformed church at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. J. H. Kregel officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Voogd is survived by his wife and six children, namely: Gerrit Jr., Mrs. Wm. Bomgaars, Mrs. J. Visser, Henry, Elizabeth and Wm. All except Mrs. J. Visser reside at Hull, she resides in the Netherlands. Their many friends extend sincere sympathy.

FindaGrave.com has Gerardus Johannes Voogd, born 20 Jan 1849 in the Netherlands, died 14 Jan 1921 in Hull; spouse Catharine Jacoba Elbers Voogd (1864-1931). It includes a copy of their joint headstone, showing his name as G. J. and hers as Catherine, and her birth year 1865.

His death certificate has Gerrit Johannes Voogd; born January 20, 1849 in Holland; parents Gerrit Voogd and Dora Becker; occupation, painter; died at 7 a.m. January 14, 1921 in Hull; cause, prostitectomy operation.

WieWasWie.nl has a marriage record for groom, Gerardus Johannes Voogd (age 34), a naval health supervisor (ziekenopzichter bij de marine), born in ‘s Gravenhage, parents Gerardus Voogd, a shopkeeper, and Dorothea Bekker; bride Catharina Jacoba Elbers (age 18), born in Helder, parents Hendrik Elbers and Anna Teerink; married 26 January 1883 in Hellevoetsluis, South-Holland.

His wife Catherine’s obituary (posted separately) says they came to this country with their children in July 1908. The passenger list for the S.S. Rotterdam, sailing from Rotterdam on July 25, 1908, lists the Voogds and three children, last permanent residence The Hague, destination Boyden, Iowa: Gerardus J. (age 59, no occupation), Catharina J. (age 43), Annie C. (age 22), Arie W. H. (age 8), Elisabeth P. (age 10).
