From the Sioux County Index (Hull), June 5, 1931:

Gerrit Voogd received the sad news of the death of his mother, Mrs. G. J. Voogd, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Bomgaars, at Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tuesday noon. She had been in fairly good health and the news was very unexpected. Mrs. Voogd is survived by six children, three sons and three daughters: Mrs. Bomgaars and Mrs. Ray Stip of Grand Rapids and a Mrs. Visser in the Netherlands, Gerrit of Hull, Henry of Grand Rapids and William of New York City, N.Y. Mr. Voogd died at Hull ten years ago.

Buried Beside Husband Here
Died Suddenly at Grand Rapids While at Mending

Gt. Voogd received the sad message last week of the death of his mother, Mrs. G. J. Voogd, who was living with her daughter at Grand Rapids, Mich. She had not been well for a week, suffering with bronchitis. At the time of her death she was sitting at the table mending clothes when suddenly she gasped and fell in the arms of her daughter and died instantly. Her remains were shipped to Hull and services were held Saturday at the First Ref. church and interment was made beside the grave of her husband at Hope cemetery in Hull.

From the Alton Democrat, June 12, 1931, Sioux Center News:

Mrs. H. Deiters, Mrs. Richard Rozeboom and Mrs. Ben Poll attended the funeral of Mrs. H. Voogd at Hull Saturday. Mrs. Voogd, who was a former Sioux Center and Hull resident died suddenly Tuesday at her home in Grand Rapids. Her husband, who passed on some years ago, is also buried at Hull. A son, Gerrit Voogd, conducts a restaurant at Hull. Two sisters, Mrs. Art Kloek and Mrs. C. De Jung, and a brother, Case Elbers, also reside at Hull.

Mrs. Voogd Buried Here Last Saturday Afternoon

The remains of Mrs. G. J. Voogd were brought to Hull last Friday from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and laid to rest Saturday, beside those of her husband who died here ten years ago. The funeral was held from the First Reformed church and conducted by Rev. Collenbrander.

Mrs. Voogd was born in Den Heider, Netherlands on Nov. 6th, 1864, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Mr. Voogd. They came to this country with their children in July, 1908. Besides the children mentioned last week in this paper, she is survived by one brother, Case Elbers of Perkins, and three sisters, Mrs. Art Kloek and Mrs. U. DeJong of Hull and Mrs. Kathman, still in the Netherlands.

Those from a distance to attend the funeral were: Wm. Voogd from New York City, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bomgaars and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stip of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Her Michigan death certificate has Catherine Voogd, widow, no husband’s name given; born Nov. 6, 1864 in the Netherlands; parents Henry Albers and Anna Deerink; died in Grand Rapids June 2, 1931; cause, chronic myocarditis.
