Funeral services of Mr. William Van Sloten, father of William Jr. Van Sloten, living east of Rock Valley, who died at his home in Hull, were held in Hull on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Van Sloten was quite well known in Rock Valley.

William Van Sloten, 50, born April 1850 Holland immigrated 1894, He married Jessie 48, born February 1852 in Holland. Their children are:
Willie 14, born January 1886 Holland

Annie 8, born June 1891 Holland
Jessie 5, daughter born November 1894 Iowa

Grandfather W. VanSloten Died Last Friday Night

Sincere sympathy is extended to the surviving members of the family of Mr. Wm. VanSloten Sr., who passed away at the home of his daughter Mrs. Frank DeGraff last Friday night. Mr. VanSloten had attained the ripe old age of eighty-one years and is survived by four daughters and three sons. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the First Reformed church, conducted by Rev. G. H. Douwstra.

Obituary of the Late Wm. Van Sloten, Buried May 25

Mr. Wm. Van Sloten Sr. was born at Nunspeet, Netherlands, April 30, 1850 and died May 22, 1931 at the age of 81 years and 22 days. In 1875 he was married to Jakoptje Vande Pol and in the fall of 1892 came to this country and settled at Hull. To this union eight children were born. Surviving the deceased are Lammert Van Sloten, Hull; John of Doon; Hattie, Mrs. H. VandeSluis, Yakima, Wash.; Nellie, Mrs. J. Humme, of Hull; John Wm. of Rock Valley; Mary, Mrs. H. Mulder, of Rock Valley; Anna, Mrs. Frank DeGraaf, of Hull; and Jocie, Mrs. Joe Kuyper of Boyden. There are also 47 grand children and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister in the Netherlands.

Mrs. Van Sloten died October 2nd, 1928, three years after celebrating their golden wedding anniversary October 15, 1925.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, May 25, from the First Reformed church at Hull, and was conducted by Rev. G. H. Douwstra, in both languages. Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Earl A. Franken of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. A. De Louw and Mr. and Mrs. J. Vande Berg of Rock Valley.

His death certificate adds his length of residence in the U.S. (36 years 6 months) and in Hull (3 years 4 months); wife’s name Jacoba Van Sloten; parents Lambert Van Sloten and Hendrika Vis; occupation, farmer, 20 years; died at 10:30 p.m. May 22, 1931; cause, gastric hemorrhage; contributory cause, carcinoma stomach, onset March 1, 1931.
