Rock Valley, IA: Jim De Kam, 70, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at his residence near Rock Valley. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26 at 10:30 AM at Doon United Reformed Church with Rev. John Vermeer officiating. Burial will be held at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Sunday, November 25 from 1:00-3:00 PM at Doon United Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Rock Valley Christian School.

James Allan De Kam was born May 12, 1948, to Clarence and Jennie (Bakker) De Kam in LeMars, Iowa. He attended Rock Valley Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School. Jim married Marjorie Boer on May 22, 1968. The next day he left with the activated national guard for Fort Carson, Colorado where they lived for the next sixteen months. Then they moved to the farm they presently live on northeast of Rock Valley. To this union, they were blessed with eight children. Jim was a jack of all trades and master of none. He worked very hard to provide for his family. He had a great work ethic, was full of kindness, love, and integrity. He was so excited for the arrival of a new granddaughter in March and his first great grandchild in February.

Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marj; his eight children, Kenneth (Laura) De Kam of Belton, Missouri, Clifford (Sara) De Kam of Doon, Iowa, Patricia (Kelly) Haak of Rock Valley, Iowa, Rodney (Twila) De Kam of Rock Valley, Iowa, Sandra (Chad) Breuer of Hull, Iowa, James (Alisa) De Kam of Doon, Iowa, Steven (April) De Kam of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Maria (Alex) Van Den Top of Hull, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren; four sisters, Nelva (Pete) Pollema of Hull, IA, Fran (Myron) Moss of Sioux Center, IA, Judy (Marlin) De Noble of Hills, MN, and Helen (Brad) DeVries of Sioux Center, IA; mother-in-law, Verna Boer of Rock Valley; three brothers-in-law, Keith (Doris) Boer of Rock Valley, IA, Les (Pam) Boer of Sioux Falls, SD, and Bill B. (Aletha) Boer of Sibley, IA; one uncle and five aunts; numerous nephews and nieces; and special relative, Phil Timmer.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Jennie; granddaughter, KatieLynn De Kam; and father-in-law, Wilbur Boer.
