Mrs. Lorraine Mars, age 84, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, October 27, at 11:00am, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. John Klompien and the Rev. Aldon Kuiper will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Saturday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home.

Lorraine Mae was born on March 2, 1934, in rural Alton, the daughter of John and Katherine (Fedders) Jasper. She was raised in Alton and Ireton, where she attended a country school until eighth grade.

On June 6, 1952, she married Lester Bernard Mars at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church. They made their home in Fort Hood, Texas, while Lester was enlisted in the United States Army. In 1955, they moved to a farm outside of Orange City, and in 1991, they moved into town. In 2013 they became residents of the Prairie Ridge Care Center. They also enjoyed wintering in Alamo, Texas. Lester passed away on January 14, 2018.

Mrs. Mars was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church.

Lorraine held various jobs throughout her life but spent most of her adult life as a homemaker and helping to keep the farm going. She enjoyed driving the tractor and feeding anyone that came to the house to visit. She was known for her homemade root beer.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Linda and Ron Kreykes, of Pahrump, Nevada; Lisa and Mark Davelaar, of Maurice; Lyle and Brenda Mars, of Alton; and Lashell and Mike Baljeu, of Strafford, New Hampshire; a son-in-law and his wife, Marlen and Jeanne Van Otterloo, of Ward, South Dakota; eighteen grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor De Groot, of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Lloyd and Ann Jasper, of Marco Island, Florida; Lester’s siblings and their spouses, Joyce and Henry Dykstra and Gerben and Helen Mars, all of Orange City; Donna and Gary De Haan, of Sioux Center; and Calvin Bootsma, of Ireton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorna Van Otterloo; infant twin siblings, Laurence and Lois; a brother-in-law, Cornelius De Groot; and a sister-in-law, Patsy Bootsma.
