DEATH OF MRS. C. M. VUGTEVEEN

Mrs. C. M. Vugteveen passed away at her home near Rock Valley Monday morning following an illness of about five weeks. Mrs. Vugteveen was born in Chicago where she grew to womanhood and spent practically all her life until she married C. M. Vugteveen just five years ago from the day of her death. During that time Mr. and Mrs. Vugteveen have lived on farms near Rock Valley. Mrs. Vugteveen would have been thirty-seven years old had she lived until February.

Besides other relatives, Mrs. Vugteveen leaves only her husband to mourn her death. The bereaved husband has the sincere sympathy of many friends in this vicinity.

Funeral services will be held in the church of Lebanon this Thursday afternoon.

From the Alton Democrat, January 30, 1931, Rock Valley news:

Mrs. Cornelius M. Vugteveen passed away at her home seven miles southwest of Rock Valley Monday morning, January 1 [i.e., January 19], following an illness of about five weeks. Mrs. Vogteveen, nee Anna Prins, was born in Chicago where the great majority of her life was spent. Five years ago she was united in marriage to Cornelius Vugteveen in Chicago and then located on a farm in the vicinity of Rock Valley, and two years ago moved to their present home. Deceased would have been 37 years old if she had lived until February. Besides other relatives she leaves to mourn only her husband. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, at one o’clock at the home and at two o’clock at the Christian Ref. church at Lebanon. The bereaved husband has the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Vugteveen, C. M. Mrs. (Prince), b. 1893, d. 1931 and infant son, Lebanon Cem, Lebanon IA; also Vugteveen, Anna, d. 19 Jan 1931 age 37, Lebanon Cem, Lebanon IA (WPA Index). [None of the news notes about her death mention an infant son.]

Her death certificate calls her Mrs. Cornelis M. Vugteveen; born Feb. 19, 1894 in Illinois; parents Nicholas Prins and Elizabeth Ericks, both born in Holland; died in Rock Valley at 8 a.m. January 9, 1931; cause, peritonitis; contributory causes, ruptured gall bladder and colosystitis. The doctor had been attending her since December 1.
