On Thursday evening occurred the death of John G. Reitsma at the age of 84 years, he having been born on January 18, 1842 at Oudekerk in the Netherlands. Deceased was married to Miss Stientje Roffel and to this union seven children were born. They are in the order of their ages: Fred, who died at the age of 25 years. This death occurred the first year after the family came to America; Mrs. John Poppema; Gerrit and Ralph, both residing at Iona, Minnesota; Mrs. Arie Kreykes; Peter residing at home and Mrs. William Stoffen, residing at Lake Wilson, Minnesota.

The family came to America on March 8, 1892 and for a few years the father worked out, but soon saw the advantages of farm life and started farming. Mr. Reitsma was among the pioneers who passed away through the hardships his 34 years as a resident of this community and could entertain his visitors with interesting events of those days. The past ten years or more of his life has been spent in resting from his labors. His health has been good until the past few months. Cancer was evident and all was done by his physician and dear ones, but to no avail.

His funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from the house and his remains laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. E. Boerbare of Sheldon and Mr. and Mrs. L. Timmerman of Avoka, Minnesota came to attend the funeral.

The relatives of the deceased have the sympathy of their many Hospers friends in their hour of sorrow.
