From the Alton Democrat, September 26, 1930, Hull news:

Miss Jeanette Vander Schaaf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Vander Schaaf, passed away at the Hull hospital Saturday due to infection following an operation. Deceased was 15 years old. Funeral services were held at the Christian Ref. church Tuesday afternoon.

YOUNG LIFE TAKEN LAST FRIDAY AFTERNOON
Jeannette, Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter VanderSchaaf Called to Great Beyond

The community was saddened last Friday when the report of the death of Miss Jeannette VanderSchaaf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter VanderSchaaf was spread around. Jeannette was a fine young lady, highly respected by all who knew her and a favorite among the young people of her set. She had been ill for five or six weeks, following a severe case of pus appendix.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home and from the Christian Reformed church, and the large number present attested to the esteem she and her family are held by all. Rev. Dr. Haan officiated and the funeral was in charge of the local undertaking establishment of Weir and Claerbout. The remains were laid to rest in beautiful Hope cemetery, here.

Jeannette had reached the age of fourteen years and nine months, and besides her parents is survived by several brothers and sisters who have the sincere sympathy of all in their bereavement.

Her death certificate has Jeanette Van der Schaaf, born December 7, 1915 in Iowa (Hull); parents Peter Van der Schaaf and Jennie Van Pykeren, both born in Holland; died in the Hull Hospital at 4:45 p.m. September 19, 1930; causes, “Ap. enteritis” since 8/8/30, appendicitis since 8/12/30, and subphrenic abscess since 9/2/1930; also, a drainage operation had been performed on 8/15/30.
