From the Sioux County Index (Hull), August 9, 1918:

PIONEER HULL MAN CALLED BY DEATH

George Asaph Sheldon was born in Fairhaven, Vermont, August 1, 1850, and died at his home in Hull, Saturday, August 3, 1918, having reached the age of 68 years and 2 days.

He was married to Miss Alta E. White, of Orwell, Vermont, October 23, 1879. To this union three children were born—one dying in infancy—and Emma Louise and Kirk Clayton, with their mother; Mrs. K. C. Sheldon and granddaughters, Marguerite and Mildred, surviving him.

Mr. Sheldon and family moved to Hull in 1881 and settled on the Sheldon homestead, just northwest of town, where they resided until the spring of 1905, when he and his wife and daughter moved into town.

In early years he united with the Congregational church of his native town, and was one of the charter members of that church in Hull. Through all the years of manhood, he has borne the white shield of a spotless Christian character—honored by all who knew him; maintaining an ideal family life and loved by his Lord and Savior, to whom he has been true, and in whose service he has been faithful at all times. He was actively integrated in all of the enterprises for the religious and spiritual uplift of the town. He had held the offices of deacon, elder and superintendent of Sunday school many years.

He had held the office of township trustee for more than twenty years, and a meeting of that body without his presence was seldom known. His friends were all who knew him, and intimate acquaintances were drawn closely to him by his clean life and genial companionship.

The funeral services were held at the home at 2 p.m. Monday, and at the church at 2:30, Rev. Kippie conducting the services and Rev. Nash, a former pastor of his here in Hull, preaching the sermon, and the remains were laid to rest in Hope cemetery. Many were in attendance to pay their last sad tribute of respect. The Index joins the host of friends of the family of the departed in expressing its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved wife, daughter and son.
