Hawarden Independent of March 26, 1925

Death Of Mrs. Henry Keehn, passed away suddenly last Friday morning, had been ill only a few days, she is survived by her husband and three children.

Mrs. Henry Keehn, a well known resident of this community, passed away shortly after 2 o'clock last Friday morning at her home, a mile and a half south of Hawarden, following a very brief illness from influenza. Members of the family had been sick for several days and Mrs. Keehn had busied herself caring for them, paying little heed to her own condition, but on Wednesday of last week was forced to go to bed. Her heart was not functioning properly and the influenza aggravated this condition but no one was prepared for the sudden turn in her condition which brought on her death. News of her death shocked the community profoundly as few even knew of her illness.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Associated Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Edwin Booth Jr., and interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Minnie Dell Patrick was born on the old Patrick homestead in Plymouth county, near LeMars, Feb. 1, 1886, so was just a little past 39 years of age. When she was six years of age the family moved to the new home adjoining Chatsvvorth where she grew to young womanhood. On March 16, 1909, just sixteen years ago last week, she —was united in marriage with Henry Keehn and they have ever since made their home in this community. Sickness in the family prevented a celebration of their recent wedding anniversary, which had been planned.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, Lloyd, aged 14, Hazel Irene, aged 10, and Lawrence E., aged 21 months. She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Patrick of Chatsworth, four brothers, Charles and George of Carpenter, S.D, and Roy and Lawrence of Chatsworth, and two sisters, Miss Ida E. Patrick of Chatsworth and Mrs. Hugo Ludwig of Hawarden. Mrs. Keehn was well beloved in this community which has known her since girlhood. She was extremely devoted to her family and her sudden passing is a severe shock to the husband and children, her parents, brothers and sisters. The children in the years to come will realize more fully the extent of their loss. Mrs. Keehn always proved to be a kind and considerate friend and neighbor and her hundreds of friends are sorely grieved and extend sincerest sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their hour of irreparable loss.

Relatives and friends from a distance who were here to attend the funeral included her brothers, Chas. and Geo. Patrick of Carpenter, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Thos. A. Patrick of White, S. D., Thos. Keehn of Parker, S. p., J. P. Keehn and Mrs. Ross Keehn of Hospers, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. D, MacArthur and Mr. and Mrs. J. R, Hinde of Seney, Iowa, Mrs. Walter Snodgrass, Mrs. Mabel Anderson and Mrs. Wm. Reed of Sioux City, Wallace Winslow, Wm. Ufken, Gerhard Heeren and Mrs, Geo. Ewers of LeMars.
