Herman Reit Passes Away

Funeral services for Herman Reit, 81, Alvord, were held February 20, 1:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home with Reverend Ralph G. Ten Clay officiating.

Mr. Reit passed away February 16 at Hegg Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Pallbearers were Louis Elbert, Melvin Den Hartog, Neil Hartog, Harry Bosler Jr., Loren Kock, Ed Schmidt. Mrs. John Wissink organist accompanied John Vande Kerk soloist.

Burial was in Alvord Cemetery under the direction of Porter Funeral Home.

He was married to Emma Jensen and she passed away July 10, 1965. In November, 1969, he married Gertrude (Van Geest) Den Hartog.

Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Herman Schemmel and Mrs. Alvin Kroeger, both of Alvord; a son, Hertnan of Citrus Heights, California, sister, Mrs. Siebert Terpstra of Rock Valley; two brothers, Frank of Bakersfield, California, and Marion of Beresford, South Dakota; three stepsons, Neal Den Hartog of Hospers. Richard Den Hartog of Wichita, Kansas;, Melvin Den Hartog of Alvord; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Louis Rehberg of Detriot, Mrs. Clarence Heidebrink of Rock Rapids and Mrs. Ray Grouse of Detroit; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
