Joseph Niichel Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s church Granville on Saturday Sept 1st for Joseph Niichel 71, long time resident of Granville.

Nichel died in the Orange City Hospital on Sept. 26 following a heart attack. He had been in ill health for some time. Rev. N. J. Becker officiated the funeral mass with music by the high school choir. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Joseph Niichel was born on Feb 8, 1896 in Sheldon, the son of William and Anna Thoma Niichel. He lived on a farm near Granville and attended school in Hospers. He married Agatha Faber on April 26, 1920 in St. Leo. MN. They resided on a farm near Granville. He was a veteran of WWI, a member of the C. O. F. the American Legion and the V. F. W.

He is survived by his widow Agatha, four daughters, Margaret (Mrs. Jerome Jungers) of Hospers; Doris (Mrs. W. L. Humker) of Sterling, CO; Florence (Mrs. Al Fisher) of Winner SD; Gertrude Mrs. Peter Mandis) of Redondo Beach CA; and two sons Joseph jr. of Sheldon and W. P. Nichel of West TX.

Surviving him also are four sisters, Ann (Mrs. Ted Schwebach) of Hospers; Emma (Mrs. Heman Schnurr) of Fulda MN; Margaret (Mrs. Vincent Stallman) of Everly IA; and Rose (Mrs. A. Hoffmann) of Hospers; and three brothers, Henry, Peter, and John, all of Granville.

Pall bearers were Henry Moos, Earl Muehl, Ed Koob, James Jacobs, Dr. A. J. Miller and Bert Schnurr.
