OLD PIONEER OF THIS PART OF STATE BURIED THURSDAY

The funeral of Joseph A. Putnam, who was mentioned last week had died, was held here Thursday of last week.

Mr. Putnam was born June 15th, 1870, at Elkader, Iowa. He came with his parents to Northwest Iowa, north of Hull in 1873. On October 10, 189, he was married to Miss Nellie Weir and to this union nine children were born, three of them dying in infancy. The family moved to South Dakota twenty years ago and the last twelve years of his life was spent at Dell Rapids. He died Monday, October 16th, 1933.

Funeral services were conducted at Dell Rapids Thursday morning and the remains were brought to Hull immediately for burial. The services here were conducted by Reverend Father Graf of Alvord. The esteem which the deceased was held, both here and at Dell Rapids, was attested by the large concourse of friends who attended both services. Mr. Putnam died following a long illness, the out come of which was a stroke.

Besides the wife, and the surviving children, James, Mary, Rufus, Joseph, Vivian and Edward C., he is survived by two brothers: A.A. Putnam of Sioux City and Charles Putnam of San Diego, California and three sisters, Mrs. Groonwold of George, Mrs. Weir of Hull and Mrs. Plowman of Spring Point, Alberta, Canada.
