FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. WM. FLIETSTRA

Funeral services for Mrs. Wm. Flietstra, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nick De Boer, were held in the First Reformed church in Rock Valley last Thursday.

Mrs. Flietstra was born in Friesland, Netherlands, where she grew to womanhood and was married there to Wm. Flietstra. She came with her husband and two daughters to this country several years ago. Her husband passed away July 26, 1930. And one of her daughters preceded her in death.

Besides other relatives, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Nick De Boer, of Rock Valley vicinity, and Mrs. Baker, Oaketon, S.D. Mrs. Flietstra had attained the advanced age of seventy-six years.

RESEARCH NOTES

She does not appear in the Sioux County Cemetery Index. She does, however, appear in “Cemetery Records of Sioux County,” which shows her born about 1858, died 31 July 1934, buried in Block 14, Lot 1 of Valley View Cemetery.

Her death certificate has her as Anna Flietstra, widow of William Flietstra; resident of Plato Township, Sioux County, where she had lived 25 years; born Nov. 20, 1857 in the Netherlands; parents’ names unknown to the informant, Nick De Boer; died at Carmel, Iowa, at 1:30 p.m. July 31, 1934; cause, apoplexy, which occurred July 30, 1934; buried at Rock Valley.

FindaGrave.com has Antje Vos Flietstra, born 20 Nov 1857 in Oudkerk, Tytsjerksteradiel Municipality, Friesland, Netherlands; died 30 Sep[??] 1934; buried in Valley View Cemetery, Bk. 14, Lot 1; spouse, Willem Flietstra (1856-1930, married 1884); children Tryntje Flietstra Bakker (1885-1938) and Gertie Flietstra De Boer (1890-1960).

The 1910 U.S. census shows William (53) and Antke (52) Flietstra, married 26 years; birthplaces Holland-Frisian; immigrated 1910. He is a truck farmer, renting his farm.

The 1925 Iowa state census shows them (as Wm. and Anna) living with Nick and Gertie De Boer and their children. His parents are given as Yneck[?] Flietstra and Clara Tuinenga, and hers as William De Vos and Treentye[??] Helenga.

Their marriage record on WieWasWie.nl shows him as Willem Ynses Vlietstra, age 27, parents Ynse Klazes Vlietstra and Klaaske Jacobs Tuininga; her as Antje Wiltjes de Vos, age 26, parents Wiltje Klazes de Vos and Trijntje Pieters Hellinga; married 10 May 1884 in Baarderadeel, Friesland.
