MISS JULIA CURTIS, FORMER HULL LADY, BURIED HERE

Miss Julia Curtis, sister of Mr. J. L. Curtis of Hull, died at St. Vincents Hospital at Sioux City, July 2, 1930.

Deceased was born at Urbana, Ohio, in 1863 and came with her parents to Littleport, Iowa, in 1865. She came to Maurice in 1888 and to Hull in 1893 where she kept house for her brother, J. L., until ’99. She later kept house for 25 years for the late Father Farrelly of Emmetsburg, Iowa. She lived in Sioux City most of the time since until her death.

Out of town friends of Julia Curtis who attended the funeral which was held from St. Joseph’s Catholic church at Hull Friday, conducted by Father Graff of Alvord, were: Sister Mary Aveline and Sister Mary Anina (the latter a sister of Miss Curtis) from Clinton, Iowa; Mr. M. F. Lucy of Edgewood, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Gessen and daughter Katheryn of Rock Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Linnan of Maurice; Mrs. Lynch of Maurice; Mr. Doherty of Rock Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Cullinan and daughter Josie of Rock Valley; Mrs. Mary McNamara and family of Rock Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Matt Weir of Archer, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Curtis of Sioux City; Miss Mildred Curtis of Sioux City, Iowa; Miss Marguerite Durband of Struble, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Durband of Struble, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Nussbaum, LeMars, Iowa; Mr. Jno. Murphy and daughter Nellie of Sheldon, Iowa.

Her death certificate gives her birth date as October 24, 1871, in Ohio; parents James Curtis and Julia Hollerhan, both born in Ireland; occupation, domestic at St. Vincent Hospital, for 5 years; died at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. July 2, 1930; cause myocarditis; contributory cause, indigestion, duration a few days.
