A.J. Newenhuis, aged 81, for 35 years a resident of Sioux county and Hospers and one of the earliest settlers in this vicinity, died Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock. The funeral was held Tuesday from the Christian Reformed church, Revs. Douwstra and Vander Heide officiating. Both spoke eloquently of the departed. Six children remain to mourn their father's death. They are: Mrs. D. Muyskens of Hospers, A.J. Newenhuis Jr., of Edgerton, Minn., and Mrs. De Vries of Hospers. Mrs. Vanden Burg and A.J. Newenhuis both attended the funeral services. Arie Newenhuis, a grandson, of Madison, S.D., also came to attend the funeral.

Sioux Center column: Mr. and Mrs. E. Van Der Hoop went to Hospers Tuesday to attend the funeral there of A.J. Nieuwenhuis.

[Note the two different spellings of the surname in the two different newspaper columns. Find-A-Grave has his name listed as Arend Jan Nieuwenhuis and his wife's maiden name as Van De Hoop.]
