Mrs. Magdalena “Lena “ L. Pass, 106, of Los Angeles, California, formerly of Sheldon, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles.

Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. Tuesday, September 12, 2000 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon with burial in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Hospers, Iowa under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon.

Magdalena “Lena” L. Pass, the daughter of John and Mary Hentges Sanem was born October 8, 1893 near Hospers, Iowa. She received her education in the Hospers Catholic School. On September 15, 1915 she was united in marriage to Frank Pass in Wilmont, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Hospers area. Her husband preceded her in death on November 22, 1918. After his passing she cared for her mother and brother for many years on the family farm south of Sheldon. In January of 1981 she moved to Los Angeles, California to live with her daughter. Since January of 1992 she had been a resident of the Country Villa Nursing Home in Los Angeles.

While in Sheldon Lena attended the St. Patrick Catholic Church, she enjoyed being with her family and spending time in her flower garden on the farm.

Lena is survived by one daughter, Arlene Whitehall of Los Angeles, California, also two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Phyllis Smith on November 3, 1993, parents and three brothers and three sisters.
