MOTHER AN DAUGHTER FIRE VICTIMS

Mrs. Gerrit, (Minnie Janssen) Pater, 26, of Matlock, were fatally burned Saturday when an explosion occurred when Mrs. Pater kindled a fire in the range using kerosene. The Matlock fire department was called and found Mrs. Pater lying on the floor, her clothes in flames. While being carried to nearby neighbors, Mrs. Pater mentioned her daughter and the firemen returned to the home and found Mary Jane "Mickey" Pater with her clothes on fire. First aid was rendered and then the victims were removed to a hospital in Sheldon where Mrs. Pater died at 7 o’clock and the daughter at 10 o’clock that evening. Mr. Pater was not at home when the fire started. Two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Pater were in the barn at the time of the explosion.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for the two victims.
