MOTHER AND INFANT BABES BURIED IN SAME GRAVE--SAD DEATH OF MRS. CHARLES W. PATRICK AND HER INFANT TWIN DAUGHTERS

One of the saddest events it has been the duty of The Independent to record, for a long time, is the death of Mrs. Charles W. Patrick and her infant twin daughters, which occurred at her home at Carpenter, South Dakota, last Saturday and Sunday.

Mrs. Patrick gave birth to twin girls Saturday. Both died at birth and the following day the mother also passed away. The bodies of the mother and babes were brought to Hawarden Tuesday for interment and funeral services were held at two o’clock this afternoon at the Presbyterian Church, Reverend A.M. McIntosch preaching the funeral sermon. The bodies of the mother and twin babes were laid to rest in the same grave in Grace Hill Cemetery. The sympathy of everyone is extended to the bereaved husband in this sad hour.

Bella Cassie was born September 3, 1881, at Ashburn, Ontario, Canada. She was united in marriage to Charles W. Patrick, formerly of Chatsworth, Iowa, at Brougham, Ontario, Canada, February 11, 1914. Following their wedding they went to Carpenter, South Dakota to make their home on a farm there. A number of years ago she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stanton, on the Ward farm a few miles south of Hawarden, and it was while here that she made the acquaintance of her husband, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Patrick of Chatsworth.

Besides her husband, she leaves an aged mother and father, four brothers and three sisters to mourn her death. Two brothers and a sister, Fred Cassie of Brougham, Ontario, Arthur Cassie and Mrs. Swardfager of Winnipeg, came yesterday to attend the funeral.
