Henry Vonderhaar, who formerly lived at Granville, died at his home in Remsen Sunday morning following an operation for cancer of the bowels. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Mary's church in Remsen.

Henry Vonderhaar died at his home in Remsen Sunday after two years illness with cancer. Mr. Vonderhaar was not confined to the house until about a week before his death, when he suddenly began to fail. He underwent an operation a few weeks ago, but it was known by his family that his end was only a question of time. Henry J. Vonderhaar was born on August 25, 1837 in Hanover, Germany. He came to Iowa and made his home on a farm one mile east of Granville. He remained there until 1902 when he retired and came to spend his remaining days in Remsen. Mr. Vonderhaar was married at New Vienna, Ia., in 1871 to Anna Rovendick of that place. To this union nine children were born and those living are: Mrs. Mary Plagge of Alton, John of Granville, Clemens of Orient, S.D.; Ben of Madison, Minn.; Frank of Paullina. Mrs. Vonderhaar died at New Vienna in 1883. In 1885 the deceased was married to Susan Plagge of New Vienna, and to this union six children were born, namely, Mrs. P.R. Simeonsma of LeMars, Mrs. Herman Schneiders of Granville, Mrs. A.B. Siemonsma of Remsen, and Anthony of Granville. The mother died on March 14, 1912. Henry Vonderhaar was a strong Christian all his life. He was honest in business and always provided well for his large family. The funeral was held Tuesday morning with solemn services at St. Mary's Catholic church at Remsen.--- LeMars Globe-Post.
