Dick Muyskens, member of a pioneer Alton family, died at his home here on Thursday, June 9, following a lingering illness.

He was born at Midsland, Terschelling, Netherlands on December 26, 1867, and had reached the age of 70 years, 5 months and 12 days. At the age of 14 years, he came with his parents to this county, the family locating south of Alton, and on March 24, 1892 was united in marriage to Berendiene Geurink. He was occupied in farming until the family moved to Alton in the fall of 1919.

Seven children were born to the couple, one dying in infancy. Mrs. Muyskens preceded him in death by 11 years, having passed away on February 22, 1927. He is survived by seven children. Five brothers and three sisters also survive.

For 51 years he was a faithful member of the Alton Reformed Church. He served the church as elder for seven years and was an outstanding example in attending divine worship services whether held on Sunday or in mid-week. His place was seldom vacant. It is said of him: "It was his desire to learn to know his Master better which desire he attained until the very end of his life, a blessed desire indeed, and worthy of emulation."
