E. P. ‘Gene’ Hogan , a Rock Rapids resident, died Wednesday at the hospital there, Where he was admitted Monday.

Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids. Rev. Victor E. Kollasch officiated and burial was in the Catholic Cemetery at Hull IA.

The rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jongewaard Funeral Home at Rock Rapids. James Buckley, Pat Buckley, Leo Babl, Joe Kerns, Angelo Quinn and Peter De Lire served as active bearer. Honorary bearers were Joe O’Connor, Louis Van Batavia, Henry Beckman, Jack Faber, Fred Jantzen, Henry Jantzen, Clarence Barron and Jack Tremmel.

Mr. Hogan was born Sept 13, 1873 at the family homestead on mile north of Hull. He taught school for eight years and for 51 years operated a threshing outfit. He also operated a road grader for several years in Sioux and Lyon Counties.

He married Emma Van Der Lieth at Alvord IA. Mrs. Hogan died in 1935. He resided at Hull until moving to Rock Rapids in 1943. After Moving to Rock Rapids he made hit home in the Lyon Hotel til three years ago when he took residence at Restmore.

Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Bernard Bernadette Doyle of Orange CA; two sons; Melvin of Long Beach CA, and Orville of Rock Rapids, and six grandchildren.
