Sioux Center, IA: John Kattenberg, 89, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Sioux Center Health. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 13 at 2:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with Rev. B. Elshout officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 12 from 5:00-8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Jan “John” Kattenberg, son of Hendrik and Roelofje (DeGraaf) Kattenberg, was born March 19, 1929 in Rilland-Bath, Netherlands. He attended grade school through the 8th grade and later attended a trade school where he honed his craft as a Master Cabinet Maker. John served his country as a member of the Netherlands Military Police. He was united in marriage to Dina Leijendekker on September 9, 1953 in Holland. The couple immigrated to Canada in 1953 before coming to the United States in 1976 and settling in Northwest Iowa.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dina of Sioux Center, Iowa; son, Henry (Harriet) Kattenberg of Hull, Iowa; daughter, Anita (Cory) Dau of Paullina, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Hendrik and Rev. Roef Kattenberg, both from the Netherlands.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Kattenberg; daughter, Janet Van Beek; and his sister, Anna.
