Mrs. Sylvester H. (Rose) Minten, 80, of Alton died Thursday in a Sioux City Hospital after a brief illness.

Services were at 10:30 A.M. Saturday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. The Reverend David Hogan officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Mrs. Minten, the former Rose Pottebaum, was born July 29, 19-5 at rural Alton. She was raised in the Alton area and attended St. Mary’s Academy at Alton. She married Sylvester Minten January 5, 1925 at Alton. They farmed near Alton until retiring in March 1964. He died January 11, 1975.

Mrs. Minten was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Parish Guild, St. Mary’s Rosary Society and Senior Citizens Group of Alton and Catholic Daughters of America at Remsen.

Survivors are four sons, Paul and Lloyd, both of Alton, Marvin of Parker, Colorado, and Harold of Gaithersburg, Maryland; six daughters, Mrs. James (Esther) MacClure of Hornick, Mrs. G.W. (Rosemary) O’Gara of Dakota City, Mrs. Vernon (Edith) Staab and Mrs. Lyle (Ethel) Heidesch, both of Remsen, Mrs. Fred (Helen) Shockey of Winnebago, Illinois and Mrs. James (Carol) Schemmel of Shawnee, Kansas; four brothers, Anton of Le Mars, Al of Alton, Leo of Granville and Martin of Sioux City; 59 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Pottebaum (Catherine Friedman), one son, Joseph, one grandson, 1 great-granddaughter, four brothers, Frank, John, William, and Henry; and four sisters, Mrs. Felix (Anna) Streff, Mother Leola, O.S.F., Mrs. Nick (Mary) Portz and Mrs. Jacob (Hilda) Haupert.
