John Minten, 75, of Alton passed away suddenly while at work in his garden Thursday April 8. He was born in Fussville, Wisconsin November 4, 1868. He came with his parents, Bernard and Elizabeth (Holzem) Minten; 8 brothers and one sister to the Alton vicinity where he has been a resident for many years. In 1903 he was married to Miss Anna M. Reith of Fussville, Wisconsin. There were no children born to this union. The couple resided on a farm southeast of Alton for 12 years. After living on a farm on the edge of town for 3 more years they moved to Alton where they lived for 23 years.

Surviving are his widow, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Hildesheim of San Francisco, California, two brothers, Jacob Minten of Los Angeles, California and Frank Minten of Milwaukee.

The funeral was held Monday at 9 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church with Reverend J. M. Neppel officiating.
