Mrs. Clara Minten, 82, a loved resident of Alton for over 50 years, died Monday night, April 24, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Langel after a protracted illness.

Clara Rieth was born December 19, 1879 to Peter and Theresia (Schmitz) Rieth, at Fussville, Wisconsin. She was married there February 10, 1909 to William Minten. They came to Alton and settled on a farm east of Alton. In 1918 they retired from the farm and moved to Alton. Mr. Minten died on April 17, 1923.

Surviving are six children, namely Mrs. Greg Pick (Theresa), Mrs. LeRoy Treinen (Bernice) of Remsen; Mrs. Malinda Duits of Sioux City; Mrs. Lawrence Rupert (Elinor); Bob Minten and Mrs. Clarence Langel (Julianna) all of Alton; 15 grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Minten and Mrs. Peter Frantzen of Alton; Mrs. Walter Bagneski, Adams, Wisconsin; one brother, John Rieth of Butler, Wisconsin. Two children died in infancy.

The wake will be held at Mrs. Minten’s home in Alton Wednesday evening at 8:00 P.M. and the funeral Thursday morning at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, Alton.

Widowed when her children were still young, Mrs. Minten was a devoted mother, as well as a kind neighbor with a host of friends.
