ildred Vander Beek's full and blessed life came to a close on April 11, 2018 at age 92. She was born June 9, 1925 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to John and Nancy Kaat. Mildred grew up in Zeeland, Michigan and was a proud graduate of Zeeland High School. Prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom, she worked as an executive secretary. She enjoyed 37 years of marriage to Rev. Jack Boerigter. Together they raised three children, Bob, Barbara and Jan. Her love of people was demonstrated in her gifts of hospitality as she entertained church members and friends in her homes in Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana and Iowa. Her passion for books and reading was evident as she started three church libraries. The church library in Demotte, Indiana is named in her honor. A person of deep faith, she started multiple women's circles and she provided inspiration as she led many Bible studies and prayer groups. Mildred was blessed to be married to Rev. Charles Vander Beek for 18 years and she assisted him in his ministry at King Park Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan until the time of his death. In 2003 she moved to Royal Park Place/Atrium in Zeeland. Mildred was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church.

Her parents John and Nancy, her brother Bill Kaat and a great-grandson Brody Van Riessen preceded her in death. Among her survivors are her dear sister Esther DePree and her brother Jim Kaat. She is also survived by her children Bob Boerigter (Mary), daughters Barbara Schutt (Dave) and Jan Van Riessen (Verl) and stepson, Ron Vander Beek (Cheryl). Memories of her life will continue to be cherished by grandchildren Kara Boekenhauer (Matt), Marc Boerigter (Brittany), Kendra Carlson (Gabe), John Boerigter (Andrea), Chad Van Riessen (Brandy) and Candi Newbury (John). Mildred will also be missed by 13 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a countless number of her dearest and closest friends.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland. Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at First Reformed Church, 125 Lincoln Street, Zeeland. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Words of Hope or Western Theological Seminary. www.yntemafh.com
