Mrs. James M. Miller, 81, of rural Hawarden died May 1, at a Hawarden Hospital.

Services were at 2 P.M. May 4 at the United Methodist Church with the Reverend Herbert Gould officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Dow Funeral Home.

Mrs. Miller, the former Hazel B. Card, was born December 21, 1894, near Akron. She taught school before her marriage on September 12, 1917 in Hawarden. The couple lived on a farm in Union County, South Dakota. Mr. Miller died March 5, 1974.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in the Union County Social Circle Extension Club for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Garden Department of the Federated Women’s Club and the Mary Magdalene Circle of the Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Alice Marie) Kopp of Hawarden and Mrs. Thomas (Dorothy) Berry of Sioux City; two sons, J. Quinten of Beresford, South Dakota and Robert of Aurora, Minnesota; a brother, Earl L. Card of Long Beach, California; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
