Rock Valley, IA: Albert Groeneweg, 87, of Rock Valley, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 28, at 2:30 PM at Doon United Reformed Church with Rev. John Vermeer officiating. Private family burial will be held prior at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be Friday, April 27, from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Doon United Reformed Church. Memorials may be given to Rock Valley Christian School or Rock Valley United Reformed Church.

Albert Groeneweg, son of Bastian and Lydia (Vanden Bosch) Groeneweg, was born June 19, 1930 in Rock Valley, Iowa. He attended Rock Valley Community School through the 8th grade. On February 22, 1950 Albert was united in marriage to Joanna Kats. Together the couple farmed northeast of Rock Valley. They enjoyed their life on the dairy farm and working the crops. Albert and Joanna lived on the farm until 1992, when they moved to town.

Albert and Joanna enjoyed traveling and took several trips overseas. They also liked going out to eat and taking car rides together. Albert loved tractor pulling. Often you could find Albert enjoying coffee with friends and he really loved when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come to visit.

Albert is survived by his 9 children, Caron (Pete) Horstman of Doon, Iowa; Cheryl (Herm) Rozeboom, Audrey (Lamar) Nance, both of Rock Valley; Arletta (Verlyn) De Weerd of Sioux Center, Iowa; Sharla (Arlin) Hoogendoorn, Shonna (Randy) Blankespoor, Arlin (Carla) Groeneweg, all of Rock Valley; Donna (James) Van Beek of Ireton, Iowa; and Doris (Duane) Van Der Brink of Rock Rapids, Iowa; 28 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; brother, Simon (Judy) Groeneweg; sister, Pat (John) Bauman; and 2 sisters-in-law, Marion and Alta Groeneweg.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Bastian and Lydia Groeneweg; wife, Joanna Groeneweg; brothers, Paul, Leonard (Catherine), Walter, and John Groeneweg; sisters, Anna (Henry) Van Ginkel, Rena (Dick) De Vries, and Lydia (Clarence) Terpstra; and great-grandsons, Tryston Blankespoor and Ezra Van Der Brink-Vonk.
