From the Hawarden Independent, April 25, 1929:

PASSED AWAY AT ROCHESTER
Sister Aloysius, Former Teacher in St. Mary’s School, Died April 10th

Sister Aloysius of Clinton, Iowa, who was formerly connected with St. Mary’s School in Hawarden, passed away April 10th at a hospital in Rochester, Minn., following an operation. She had been in failing health for several months and was taken to Rochester two or three weeks before her death where it was deemed necessary to perform an operation. She seemed to be making a satisfactory recovery from the operation when she suffered a sudden relapse and death claimed her. Funeral services were held at Clinton April 12th where she was laid to rest.

Sister Aloysius was well known in Hawarden, coming here when St. Mary’s School was organized. She was one of the founders of the institution and had complete charge of the music department, together with other work in the school. She left Hawarden a number of years ago and since then had been at Mount St. Claire Academy in Clinton. She was greatly beloved by her pupils and her gracious manner endeared her to all citizens of the community with whom she came in contact, who will learn of her death with deepest regret.
