JOHN AALDERS DIED SUNDAY IN MICHIGAN
Early Settler Here Survived By Thirteen Children—Funeral This Friday Here

John Aalders Sr., who come to Sioux county in the '70s, died Sunday morning in a hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich., word received here Monday by his son John stated. His last illness, similar to that of the late B. A. Pottebaum, was caused by a stroke of paralysis. His daughter, Miss Dena, of Grand Rapids, who is a trained nurse, was at his bedside. He was 69 years of age.

Funeral services were held at Grand Rapids but the daughter, Miss Anna, is accompanying the body to Alton, and will arrive here this Thursday noon. Services will be held this Friday afternoon at two o’clock at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Tony Duistermars, west of Carnes, and burial will be made at Nassau cemetery.

Mr. Aalders came to Sioux county when 18 years of age about 1873, homesteading a farm near Boyden but later moving to the farm one and one-half miles south of Alton which he developed into a model and beautiful place. He was married to Miss Anna Sorgdrager who died in 1901, the children surviving the parents being Mrs. Rev. De Vries of Ontario, California; Dr. H. J. Aalders of Calistoga, California; Miss Anna of Nevada, Missouri; John, Jr., of Alton; Andrew of Los Angeles, California; Miss Dena of Grand Rapids; and Mrs. Tony Duistermars of Orange City.

The wife and mother died in 1901 and ten years later Mr. Aalders moved to Orange City, wedding Miss Cynthia Bloom. Four years ago the family moved to Grand Rapids, Mich. Six children were born to the second union, all of whom reside in Michigan.

The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved children in the loss of their father who was one of the pioneers of this section and a respected citizen who helped to develop the country into what it is today. The children are all respected citizens who have become solid citizens in the communities in which they have settled, numbering their friends in the hundreds here where their childhood years were spent.
