Mrs. E. J. Minard, a former resident of Rock Valley for many years, passed away Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Bryant, near Hartley, Iowa. Although Mrs. Minard had not been strong for several years, she was not taken sick until about a week before her death, when she suffered a light stroke of paralysis.

Mrs. Minard was born at Keokuk, Iowa, February 3, 1856, and thus had attained the age of seventy-three years, one month and twentyone days. Her parents resided at Keokuk until she was nine years old, and then moved to Bourbon, Indiana, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage at Bourbon with E. J. Minard in the year of 1873. Mr. and Mrs. Minard lived at Bourbon for a few years and then moved to Hitchcock, S.D., where they resided for ten years. They moved to Rock Valley in the year of 1893 and lived here twenty-five years. In the summer of 1916, they moved to Wenatchee [line missing?] of 1918, they moved to Tacoma, Washington, where Mr. Minard died July 1, 1927. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Minard went to the home of her daughter near Hartley where she spent the rest of her life.

Mrs. Minard was the mother of eleven children, four of whom died in infancy, and one of them, Dwight, died at the age of eighteen years. The others are living and are as follows: Mrs. Frank Renshaw, Wenatchee, Washington; Mrs. Wm. C. Bryant, Hartley, Iowa; Mrs. P. W. Tierney, Jeffers, Minn.; Mrs. James Gormley, Wenatchee, Washington; Mrs. Oran Yeager, Sacred Heart, Minn.; and Evert Minard, Seattle, Washington.

The remains were brought to Rock Valley for funeral services and burial. The services were held in the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, and the remains taken to the Valley View Cemetery.

Mrs. Minard had a number of friends in Rock Valley who are grieved to learn of her death, and who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
