Lona McGill was born at Cobb, Wisconsin on June 10, 1889 to Michael and Julia Norris. When she was two years old, the family moved to Rock Valley, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Rock Valley High School and the University of Wisconsin and spent many years teaching school, including being the principal of the Rock Valley High School and the first girls’ basketball coach. She married Frank T. McGill of Rock Valley on July 21, 1926.

The funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. on November 6th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rock Valley and Father P.J. Nooney celebrated the funeral Mass. Burial was in the St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Frank T. McGill; a daughter, Mrs. Clyde (Mary Frances) Goin of Mitchell, South Dakota; a son, Tom McGill of Rock Valley; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Norris of Rock Valley; and a brother, Dr. R.M. Norris of Jacksonville, Illinois.
