Don C. McCown, 63, a Hawarden business man for the past eight years, died Wednesday, July 26, at the Hawarden hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. McCown was taken ill on Friday, July 21, after he had worked in his place of business nearly all day. After he went home late in the afternoon he suffered a heart attack and entered the hospital that evening.

Mr. McCown had been connected with the hardware business for many years. In 1942 he purchased the W.H. Wilkinson Hardware Store, which was renamed the McCown Hardware Store. Just prior to entering the business in Hawarden he was a salesman for the Perfection Stove Company and traveled in this section with headquarters in Sioux Falls.

After coming to Hawarden he took an active part in the affairs of this city. He was an ex-president of the Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Hawarden Rotary Club and was vice president of the First National Bank.

Mr. McCown was born August 12, 1884, in Des Moines. Survivors are his widow Frances (Freking) McCown; two sons, Don McCown, Jr., of Long Beach, California, and Robert of Hawarden; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Jane Rollinger of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Jean Townsend of Baldwin Park, California, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Jean Anderson of Chillicothe, Missouri.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St. Mary's Church in Hawarden with Reverend Father R. Graf officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of the Frazier Funeral Service. Pall bearers were G.E. Anderson, Chas. McDonald, Henry Visser, J.A. Armstrong, Francis Koenecke and Bud Heldt. Hawarden business houses were closed for the funeral.
