Kruid Frederick "John", 1937-2017

A funeral service for John Kruid, 80 of Norfolk, Ne. was held on Monday Oct. 9 2017 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk, and Pastor Lee Weander officiated. Interment was at the Prospect Hill Cemetery of Norfolk. Visitation was held on Sunday at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. John died on Sunday Oct. 1, 2017 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Ne. Stonaceck Funeral Chapel in Norfolk in in charge of arrangements.

Frederick John Kruid was born on July 10, 1937 to Henry and Fannie (Van Dieren) Kruid on a farm near Archer, Ia. He was raised on a farm near Hudson, S.D. and attended rural schools in Paulina Ia. and Hudson, S.D.
He married Emilene Schoep on Oct. 19, 1957. John farmed near Sioux Center, Ia. and then went into the animal health business until 1976, when he moved to Madison, Ne. to work for Pax Steel Products selling livestock feeding equipment. He worked for this company 40 years and enjoyed it. He also owned and operated Madison Farm Supply of Madison and Pax Equipment and Farm Supply in Sioux Falls, S.D.

On May 28, 1983 John was united in marriage to LaVonne (Schwanke) JOhnson in Sioux Falls, S.D. They made their home on an acreage in Madison, Ne. where they enjoyed raising and showing quarter horses. In 2008 they moved to Norfolk Ne. where they currently reside.
He was a member of Madison County Agriculture Society from 1987-2009 becoming President in 1997.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Madison, where he served on the Stewardship Board, Trustee and Elder. He also was a long-time board member of the Madison Chamber of Commerce. In 2010 they became members of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

John retired in 2015 and sold the business to his son Mike. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, traveling, camping, and yardwork, and the yearly fishing trips to Canada with his sons, grandsons, and lately his daughter and granddaughters. He also had a passion for the farm and agriculture. His hobbies included working outside, redoing antiques, especially a 1934 Farmall F12 tractor.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, LaVonne; 4 children and their spouses; Randy (Cheryl) Kruid of Hudson, S.D. Mike (Cori) Kruid, Madison, Ne.; Terry (Barb) Kruid, Elkhorn, Ne.; Cheryl Kruid Brown, Alma, Ne. 2 step children and spouse; Nick (Ruth) Johnson, Guthrie, OK. and Noelle Johnson, Columbus, Ne and step grandson Chance Johnson who was raised by his grandparents. 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and on on the way. One sister, JoAnne (Gerrit) Baker, Doon, Ia. three brothers, Frank, Ireton, Edwin (Ethel) Kruid, Orange City, Ia. Marvin (Sharlyn) Kruid, Rock Valley Ia. and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Grace, 2 brothers, John and Marion, a grandson, Marcus Kruid, and 2 sisters-in-law, Marilyn Kruid and Carole Kruid.
