The large gathering of friends at the funeral Saturday of the late John D. McCarville, formerly of Alton, gave testimony of the affected and sympathy (illegible). Brief services were held at the home of Mrs. Anna McCarville’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Gebauer, were followed by public services at the Presbyterian Church in charge of the pastor, Reverend George Bray, assisted by Reverend John A. Klauren of the Reformed Church, while the rites of the Masonic Order in charge of Floyd Lodge, led by T. J. Reeves of Orange City were carried out at the Nassau Cemetery.

Those here for the funeral from a distance were Mr. McCarville’s brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCarville of Jefferson, Iowa, his uncle, Dan McCarville of Richards, Iowa and sister, Mrs. Jeane Wiss, Fort Dodge. Others from out of town were the Henry Remberg family, John De Weerd, B. Van Iperea, Nick Hoist, Miss Maggie Hulst, all of Hospers, Mrs. Harry Hybers of Sioux City.

John Dennis McCarville, aged 31 years, passed away August 13th at the State University Hospital, Iowa City, following an operation performed on August 10th for brain tumor from pneumonia following the operation. An autopsy showed that he had been suffering from the tumor on the brain for five years.

Deceased was born in Colorado and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. McCarville. His mother survives him, residing in Denver, and also his wife, Mrs. Anna Gebauer McCarville. Several brothers and sisters also survive “Jack” who had a large number of friends here made during the years of his service as a barber at Alton.

The funeral will be held from the Gebauer home here this Saturday afternoon, at 1:30 from the home and 2 o’clock at the church where Reverend Bray will conduct the services at the Presbyterian Church. Masonic rites in honor of the departed brother will be carried out at the cemetery.
