MRS. STEVEN BOEKHART

Mrs. Steven Boekhart passed away in a hospital at Sioux Falls last Saturday evening, following an operation. She was taken to Sioux Falls to the hospital the Wednesday before her death, in hope that her life might be saved by an operation.

Mrs. Boekhart was about fifty-eight years old. She leaves her husband and family of children. She had lived in this vicinity for a number of years and was well known. For the past year or more the family have lived northwest of Rock Valley.

Funeral services were held in the First Reformed church in Rock Valley this Thursday afternoon. The bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.

Mrs. S. Boekhout of near Doon passed away Saturday evening, February 9th, at the McKenna hospital at Sioux Falls following an operation. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon and interment was made in the Rock Valley cemetery.

FindaGrave.com has Jantje “Jennie” Dekker Boekhout, born 9 May 1873 in Ede Municipality, Gelderland, Netherlands; died 9 Feb 1929 at Sioux Falls; spouse Steven Boekhout (1886-1945); 9 children listed with birth and death dates, all with surname or birth name Van Middendorp. An unattributed note says that her first husband, Jan Middendorp, was born 7 November 1868 in Barneveld. He died 18 October 1912 in a hospital at Utrecht, Netherlands.

Researcher Wilma J. Vande Berg found from the Netherlands records on www.wiewaswie.nl that she was age 18 when she married Jan Van Middendorp, age 24, at Barneveld, Gelderland, Netherlands. Her parents were Jan Dekker and Aaltje Haazeleger. She was the mother of ten Van Middendorp children. After Jan died, she married Steve Boekhout in 1917.

The Select Marriages Index on Ancestry.com has Steven Boekhout (no age given), born at Barnevelt, Gelderland, Netherlands, marrying Jennie Van Middendrop [i.e., Middendorp], age 43, on 24 December 1917 in Sioux County. She is listed as being born at Ada, Gelderland, Netherlands, parents Jan Dekker and Aaltje Hazeleger.
